    Thermo-Time Switch on a 2.2T?

Trying to figure out what the thermo-time switch on the crank case breather housing does on a Zenith equipped '71T 2.2 engine. I've been reading several threads and all seem to reference it's use on fuel injected engines only (for cold starting I think). Just trying to figure out if it's a major component or some form of emmissions equipment or something similar that's not too important. Thanks,

At one time even the carb engines had cold start squirters in the air cleaner. After many carb fires there was a factory bulletin suggesting these be disconnected. All you have to do is give the throttle 1 more pump, didn't really need the squirters. MFI cars don't have accellerator pumps, they need the squirters when below 20 degrees or so.

    Ed,

I've seen the spray bars running through the top of the air cleaner box. The car I've seen them on was built in 7/70 and my car was built in 10/70 and does not have them. Either they were removed from my car or they stopped putting them on after only a few months of production for MY 71. Any insight into when they stopped installing these? Also, when they were removed did cars get new air boxes without the holes drilled in the back? Just trying to figure out if my car originally had them or not. Thanks,

I don't remember the exact wording, but given how most recalls worked back then , I think the dealer was just supposed to disable the system. They certainly didn't supply new airboxes, but I do remember that there was also the recall on plastic velocity stacks, and for that you got new steel ones. My 71 T does not have the spray bar.

Good info Ed, I remember my 71 T had the thermo time switch and Zeniths. It was disconnected when I got it. I hooked it back up but ended up promptly replacing the Zeniths with Webers!
