    Correct Carpet for 2.4S 1972

What is the correct carpet to use in a 1972 S, I'm thinking of Appbiz and Perlon Salt and Pepper. Am I ok ?

Hargaarn Salt and Pepper, not perlon. Trunk would be grey perlon.
Tony or Auto's Intl. I believe they both source from GAHH which sells the right material with the almost correct jute backing for the floor pieces. KHM makes the very best repro, but I found them very slow and inconsistent to deal with.

That's not my experience at all, I've bought a dozen or so carpet sets from them for Porsche, BMW and Mercedes and always found them easy to deal with, set usually arrive within two weeks (but I'm in Europe) their sets are great quality but at the top end of the price scale.

Hi, the advice is correct it should be salt and pepper. Most suppliers including ourselves bu from the same factory. Here is our kit fitted in a 72 s

But I disagree with how exact it is. Here is a sample against the original.

    It is darker and shorter.

So we are along with several other products looking to remake it ourselves. Then also supply all colours. But this will take some time. Here is some of the machinery.

    Thanks
    Alan

According the the good dr. Johnson, the carpet for 1972-73 911S should be velour, and Perlon (salt/pepper) for 911T and 911E.

I have always felt these guys would be the place to go for replacement carpets. I have not seen any pics of their carpet products, but it might be worth a shot:

Here is a link to their ebay shop, and to an auction for an earlier standard carpet set. Details look really good, I think.

So from what I can gather from above, Tan is not available? The wool fibers are slightly shorter and the vinyl binding is much smaller? Isn't the rubber backing different as well? From memory, aren't the dots, octagons or whatever they are larger than those in the above pics? Man are we a bunch of tough knit picky Porsche owners. Alan, it looks it is up to you to get it right.

Alan is correct that the carpet and vinyl piping available in the US is not quite right.

    (1) It is shorter. It's a cut pile carpet, but it is cut too short. I believe these are made as a loop carpet and then sheared to make a cut pile and thus could be cut higher.
    (2) The dots on the back of the floor pieces are 20% smaller in the GAHH sourced material (ubiquitous in North America) than the originals.
    (3) The binding is not padded like in the originals.

These criticisms also apply to the SitzKlinik carpets. The KHM ones have a more padded binding with the right grain but are still a shorter pile. They have nice details like sown in cardboard reinforcements unlike many others which are glued on. The GAHH ones have the right grain on the vinyl binding, but not the right padding of the binding. And they glue on their cardboard instead of stitching it on. They seem to be the supplier for all the carpet, so they also have the same issue with the jute dots, which are a bit too small compared to original.

Unfortunately when I tried to order from KHM, they took a week to get me an invoice with wire instructions. But their wire instructions don't seem to work from North America (IBAN SWIFT issues). Then 2 weeks later they said I could pay by credit card if I sent them 2.9% more money. So I sent them my CC info and never heard back from them again. I ended up cancelling the card, just in case...

We already have a supply for the correct under padding used on the 4 floor mats and the correct edging. I will grab some pics. We also still trying to source the correct padding used under the foot pedal carpet which is again different. One day we will get there.
