    Quick Electrical Question: Wire-steering column

In working on the dash area this brown with white stripe wire (one on the left in the picture) became disconnected. I've check the wiring diagram I have and I don't seem where it connects.

In the diagram, you can see the brown/white runs from the horn contact,31 in yellow box, to the horn relay in the luggage compartment. When the horn is pushed it completes the ground to the brown wire to activate the relay. There should be another Br/W under the dash before it passes into the trunk area.

In case you're still not clear, there's a circular plastic horn ring with circular brass/copper insert that the spring loaded horn contact mounted on your steering is in constant contact with as your steering wheel turns. Off of that horn ring is a terminal -- the wire plugs into it.

See: http://www.ebay.com/itm/USED-ORIGINA...6d0bdb&vxp=mtr for what this horn ring looks like. (Also a good place to buy used P parts, especially if you live in the northeast)

I see you already have a brown/ white wire connected to the horn contact, so I have no idea what that extra wire is.
Maybe it goes down the column to the ignition switch for the buzzer contact, but I'm not sure what year they started that.

jrbennett-that is what confused me. Yes, I have a brown/white wire off the horn contact already. That one is part of the wiring loom going down from the wiper switch. The lonesome wire is part of the turn signal loom going down the left side of the steering column. I found this wire tucked in below the steering column behind the lower part of the dash. Curious....

So there are two brown/white striped wires. One off the turn signal and wiper switches. Was there suppose to be two horn wires to the horn contact ring?

I went searched quite a few old posts. Many have this wire tucked under the dash. General consensus is it is a spare that may have been used on early cars. Last post here has a suggestion that it is for optional steering wheel horn connection.
My car is apart right now so I can't trace it out, but I know it also was unconnected and tucked under the dash when I bought it. I know Porsche uses brown for ground wires and brown/white when they use the ground wire as a switch leg.

E Sully Thanks for your sleuthing ... it indeed seems that it is an extra wire. Appreciate your efforts and the links.
