    BI-IODE Police

Would these work in our early cars?

No. They are 190mm units. The 175mm is the correct size to drop in a Hella bucket.

They can be made to fit, Lot's of work though. But, they don't look the same to me.

The telltale is the fixing lugs protruding past the bowl. The correct 175mm cibie has " flush with the rim" mounts. Some lenses have, 190 stamped on the left hand side. If not, look at the fixing lugs.

I bought one of these 190mm a number of years ago thinking they'd work...too much effort.

As Dave said - they can be made to fit in the Hella US headlamp buckets but it's a lot of work.

Many ebay sellers of the (Citroen DS) 190mm Biodes are trying to attract Porsche owners so they purposely only show the front view (& often from a distance) & typically avoid mentioning the diameter ...

If you're unsure, always ask for the diameter & a close-up shot of the area of the lens infont of the smaller circular reflector - the smaller Biodes which fit the Hella buckets without any modifications have a rectangular pattern on the glass:

    - whereas the larger (190mm Citroen DS, etc) version has a 'cross' shape in the same place:
