    Bilstein Jacks

    Are these right for 66?

Should the foot be blue or black? (EDIT: found this photo on my camera of the foot of one of the jacks)

Should the shaft be shiny or dull?

Should the shaft be parkerized? Should the other pieces be parkerized (phosphated?)

Is the part that goes in the jack receiver gloss black? Satin black?

Thanks for any help with this, archives inconclusive. There is info out there on 356 jacks that is helpful but not sure if a "D" jack would apply to an early 911.

FWIW my 66 912 has a blue foot. I know it's the original jack.

Thanks Tom! Do the steel parts appear to have any coating on them?

    You're welcome (and it's actually Dan) :-)

Not sure. I'll give another look tonight. I presume you are talking about the steel parts that make up the jacking mechanism and the section that inserts into the body. Let me know if that's not what you mean. I can post a picture of what I have.

Thanks Dan! (Sorry about that, says the guy whose name is a number! )

It is claimed that the "D" jacks looked like this unused, unrestored.

Color of foot depends on year.
Virtually all 356 jacks had blue feet as did early 900 cars probably up through late '66-'67 when they became black.
Remember that jacks and tool kits were not shipped with the cars, so dealers took some license with customers. Whether a car got a blue or black foot jack depended first on factory inventory and then dealer inventory.
My '58 and '64 cars are blue. My '67,'68, '69, and '70 cars are all black....all were original to the cars.

Peg section done in very cheap gloss black, center pieces raw cast iron, shaft initially parkerized...although some original shafts look like bluing or light black oxide.
