1965 911 - How to get in the rear seat cushions with vinyl surrounding

    Hi all,

I would like to get the old original rear seat cushions with the vinyl surrounding back in my freshly restored 911 1964. But unfortunately the shape of the surrounding has changed a little in all the years. Now it looks a little smaler than it should be. What it the best way to get it in nicely again? Should I warm up the vinyl of the surrounding and glue it back to the carpet? Any experience?

    Best,
    Mark

Mark, I coated the underside of the seat and the outside of the surround with glue, then sat in the seat for a while until the glue adhered. This seemed to work, was free, gave sufficient pressure and the opportunity to read back issues of Excellence.

Eric, how did you come up with that glue, our friend in San Diego?

Thanks for the recommondations. This how the seats look without being glued to the carpet. I will get the glue and some good stuff to read and will try my best to get these ones in nicely. But it will take a little more attention as I thought. I have the feeling that there is too much inslation material in this area and I think this is another reason why they do not fit in nicely right now. Will have to fix it within the next couple of weeks.

    Hi Mark,
Do you have some pictures of the end result??
I´m in the process of doing the same and curious if you had any experiences to share.

    Thanks, Radmund

    Frank,

Concours judges don't see safety equipment and '065 did not originally ship with rear belts like her pre-68 brethren.

In a bow to the realities of modern traffic, the poster just above you welded some 7/16-20 plates made by SCHROTH into the bare metal chassis during its four year vacation at his Restoration Shop/Spa/Collection of Old German Stuff in Sunny New Hampshire.

As such, I left the glue off where the belts bolt in to facilitate removal of the rear belts for Concours purposes. The vinyl surrounds don't perfectly segue onto the curved tunnel there anyway.
