    Luggage compartment lights

    Hi, gang:

The front luggage compartment lights haven't worked on my 1969 911S since I bought the car some years ago. Today I tried to rectify the problem, so I checked the bulbs and fuses...all were okay. Next I followed the wiring in the front hood and I found that the main (white & black) power-supply line that runs down along the right side hinge wasn't connected to anything in the trunk...obviously the source of my problem.

Here are what I hope to be some easy questions for you:

    1) When do the luggage compartment lights work? Only with the headlights on? Always?

    2) Is there a switch that turns them on when the lid is raised?

    3) Where does the main (white/black) power line connect to after it runs down along the right hinge?

Thanks in advance for your help!

They work only when headlights are on, the switch I believe is in the driver side hinge and it works when the trunk is opened or closed. I believe the wiring goes to the switch.

Here is an older thread that explains it:

I'll have to look, but I seem to remember that the trunk light circut is active only while the parking lights are on and not with the headlights. Please check my memory.

Not sure if the '69 trunk light circuit is different than my '73... but the '73's light actuation has nothing to do with the key, or front light circuit at all. You open the hood and the light comes on, with the keys in your pocket and the front lights off.

Trunk lights on my '69 E US delivery come on when the headlamp switch is pulled out to either the first detent (parking), or all the way (headlamps).
