    Vale Michael Walkerden

I have recently learnt of of the passing of one of our early s members , Michael Walkerden (walko9)

Michael passed away Tuesday morning. Mike owned a red Group Sc Carrera 3.0 and had previously raced in Porsche Cup events and was a long time Porsche Club NSW member and enthusiast.

It was only a month ago I was talking with him at Phillip Island, and he was so pleased with the progress of his Carrera 3.0 that he'd been developing for the past 12 months. I'd run into him in the paddock at other events, and there was never a cross word. He was so pleased to be back out there running in group s and improving.

He had been battling cancer for some months, after 12 years of remission from his first encounter.

Michael went in to hospital for his regular outpatient visit early this week, but they were concerned about him and kept him in. He died of a stroke.

Michael was in his mid 40’s and leaves a wife and 3 children under 10 years of age.

The funeral will be held on Friday morning at 10am at St Phillips Anglican Church, Port Hacking Road, Caringbah, Sydney, NSW

Such a young man; very sad. Prayer for his family and hoping that his "car friends" rally to support them during this tough time. That is one of the benefits of a community.

Best memory is of Walko was of him diving under me at Turn 10, PI in March. Didn't even see him coming. He was a little crazy on the track !

RIP Walko you will be missed.

Michael was one of the more colourful and interesting guys I met during our Porsche Cup days.

I fondly remember turning up for my first Porsche cup race meeting in Darwin and seeing this white scruffy 911 roll in full of tyres and tools and bags. Not off the truck, no Michael drove from Sydney to Darwin, and if memory serves me correctly, on slicks!! He had a more unorthodox approach to his race meetings and was pretty successful in his class in Porsche Cup. He certainly left nothing to chance on the track and made the best of what his budget allowed.

He was a passionate Porsche guy who bounced back from cancer and despite many setbacks got himself back into racing in the last few years.

My thoughts go out to his family. RIP Michael.

Very sad news, far too young.

I've known Michael for 10+ years but hadn't seen him for a long time until he dropped in at a few race meetings early last year. Always arrived at the track with a smile on his face, even more so when he was back in the saddle in his C3. He was having a great time at PI this year.
    Cheers, Ryan

    Damn.

We'd helped each other a bit over the past decade with bits and pieces for our old Porsches.

I spoke to him 6 weeks ago when he was in Brisbane, but we had bad timing and didn't get to see each other. I knew he'd beaten cancer before, but he didn't mention the second bout.

I'm truly saddened to hear this. My very best thoughts to his family.

    RIP Michael.

I had never met Michael, or had any personal interaction with him. I only have observations of an enthusiastic individual who never gave away a single clue of his predicament...I must admit my shock at this news...
My regards and condolences to his family.
