Just a clarification for my ignorance - which 68 motors were ally? The T's?

An interesting issue. My early matching numbers 68 911 has a magnesium case I believe. The gearbox is ally and quite different in appearance. Also, the engine/serieal numbers (3280972) stamped on the motor accords with the previous thread: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...se-number.html

"Aluminum case serial number faces the back of the car.
Magnesium faces the passenger side of the car.
(Because the boss on the Mag case is too thin to stamp a number facing the rear of the car"

The AL/MG divide is 3280631/3280632 for the 901/14 engine. See this thread:
    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...Engine-Build-s
Build #'s for these engines are needed, so please find them, and add to the thread.

for a second, you had my heart thumping, but then i looked more carefully. i am looking for case 3280052.

if memory serves, i think a member named "grady" has done the research on '68 cases and when they converted to mag. the conversion took place somewhere near 3280600. to me, it looks like you have a late aluminum case.

    good luck.
