Hello! I have an LSD transmission in my car, it gets regular street used about 3000 miles a year. What would be the recommended oil and interval change?

I see that most people recommend Swepco 201

I like Swepco 201 (blue) in my 901-type transaxles. Just replaced in the -E this past weekend, as a matter of fact. I thought the LSD required something "special" however. I'd check on that before I put Swepco 201 in a LSD transaxle. Open to corrections/clarification from others.

I have never liked Swepco, tried it once in a 901 with an LSD and found it didn't have a positive impact on the gearchange.
I have used Redline 75W90NS ever since and would add the miniumum amount of 'friction modifier' needed to stop any chatter of the LSD plates.
Amsoil has a limited slip additive in their trans oil. I do use it and it did stop my LSD chatter. They also make a seperate LSD additive if you want to use something else.

I run Swepco in my LSD 915 w/o any additional friction modifiers. This is also the recommendation of my mechanic.
That said, many others like Redline + modifier as Chris said.
Not sure how much of a difference there is for the oil requirement on a 901.

Swepco 201 has friction modifier for use with a clutch type LSD. If you want synthetic, Red Line 75W90 has friction modifier whereas the 75W90NS does not.

Hello,
In 2006 have verified that topic at the Porsche Classic Department:
If you install the ZF LSD 904 type for your 901 gearbox you should either use Shell Spirax A 90 LS or Shell Spirax MB 90 gear oil. These are the only 2 types which are allowed for the early 904 LSD.

Hello! Any real experience with the Shell Spirax lubricant?

I use the Shell Spirax A 90 LS for my 901/02 gearbox with 904 LSD and it works perfect. Now this type is replaced by Shell Spirax ALS 80W-90 as far as I know.
