at some point the market is going to fall out of this stuff? is all the fake crap going to make the real stuff more or less valuable?

wow. that's fairly soulless for DP, not what I would have expected. (that is not a criticism of backdating, but a statement of disappointment in that 'kit')

Singer will probably be selling 964-to-ST 'kits' one of these days. But why would a guy want to change a 964?

The only cars "like this" that are appealing to me are honest-to-goodness "done to factory spec" R, ST and RSR's.

    There is apparently a market for a $190,000 - $300,000 "kit car" but the new '14 GT3 is $130,000.

Speaking of kits/ OT; Everybody familiar with the Factory Five 818R yet? A real budget road rocket. Looks like it has the makings of a super quick Auto-X car. 1.12 G on the skid pad.

Back to the regularly scheduled program.

Seems that every generation has its trend where people ruin perfectly good cars. In the 70's and 80's it was "updating" all the early cars or slant nosing the Turbos, etc. A couple years later, the trend goes out of style and nobody wants the turds. IMO, backdating is more of the same. A clean unmolested 911 will always be the car to have, no matter the generation.

I would say this is a question of passion and opportunity, again. I have both a backdate and an 100% original, I like them both. I bought them not thinking about the value or the costs to make them nice, just because I felt in love : the first for the look, the second for the color.
I could have afforded to buy a real pre74 just for the money spent on my backdate.
The SC needs lot of care, and again loads of money.

I'll buy a third one in the same mindset.

What I would point out though, is the quality, whatever you do (taste is so subjective), should be always at the top. an original, a hotrod, a backdate, an upgrade, etc.

    Cheers
