Front wheel bearing seal removal tricks

I have the front hubs off to do a wheel bearing repack but I am struggling with getting the old seals out of the hubs. I would usually just pry them out with a large screw driver but this isn't getting it done. Does anybody have some tricks for removing these without marring the hub badly?

    Thanks

Don't use a screw driver! You need a large brass punch. You can buy these at places like Sears or tool shops etc. The large brass punch will grab the sleeve and not hurt the hub. Find the largest one you can and use it on a solid surface with a hammer. Go in a star pattern as use hammer it out.

If you're going to replace the wheel bearings then just hammer against the bearing (with a punch) and it will push out the seal.

This is what they look like. Get a solid surface like your garage floor. Wear gloves and goggles and hammer away in a circle spinning the brass punch to get a good grip. They will pop right out. -Scott
