    How are YOUR CV Joints?

Started hearing an intermittent grating noise from the left rear. Then it disappeared.... Then started occurring with increased frequency. The "little voice" in the back of my head said "check your CV joints". Wow .... nasty!

Since I do not have an in depth service history on the 73, I pulled both axels.

This was the worst CV joint.

Long time ago, when I worked in service for a summer, I saw the results of a failed half-shaft flail around on the underside of a 911. Basically took out part of the engine, transmission, trailing arm, brake lines, oh and modified the body like I had never seen before.

In reflection I had been driving my fast and hard ..... believing all was good..... I'm in the process of replacing all four since all were either pitted and/or scored.

You have to be an idiot to run one until it fails. They give plenty of warning! Mine are redone and awaiting installation.

Those were indeed doomed to fail. Good intuition on checking them!
