Question What is wrong with this 911L 1968 oil pump ?

    Dear all,

I have been looking and searching on some info about oil pump for a 1968 911L Sportomatic, block type 905/00. I have a pic of the bottom of the engine, and there are two things that make me wonder there might be something wrong :
    1) the scavenge tube seems to be enlarged by hand (sic!)
    2) the oil pump screen is missing

Has anyone could give me info/pics on what should be a correct setup ?

    Thanks

Can you look inside the case to the side of the pump? It might be a later pump, 84 and up Carrera pump. Those have a fixed screen. In order to use that pump you will also need a later sump cover. May be they didn't have that cover at hand and decided to cut of the screen.

The link shows a carrera pump

    Just my $.02

I believe it is a Carrera pump with the screen cut off. Pick up tube is bolted to pump body not glued in.

You might be able to get a screen on. It will not be as factory (since it was cut) but it will work (and you need the later sump cover). You also might be able to put on a 'pre carrera pump screen'. That is the set up that was stock and w/ the original sump cover it will look stock from the outside.

I don't see why you would open up your case (lot of costs). This is a good pump only not original for your engine.
