What tyres can you fit on 5.5 15 fuchs

I have a set of fulda (Goodyear) on my 1968 911s. There is plenty of tread left, but they are 10years old. I am looking to replace, There doesn't seem to be much choice from mainstream manufacturers, looks like I will need to fit 195/65 15 rather than 185/70 15s. What are others fitting to there cars?

I'm running 185/65 front and 195/60 rears - Yokohamas. There's an extra 1/2" of width in the back, it makes for a good handling setup on the car. The heights are almost identical front/rear.

Just replaced 4-year-old Michelin MXV4s with 185/70 Vredesteins on a '68 with 5.5 Fuchs. Better ride, more period look.

I first used Vredesteins on a '64 VW bus and they've been great, now into my fourth set on three different Porsches.

Kinda miss the old Michelin ZX's though.

I'm based in the UK, home of the speed camera... Is there much of a difference in speedo accuracy between the different profiles? How does 195 60 vs 195 65 vs 185 70 shake out vs original profile?

    Eg 195 65, you are travelling a little faster, x% 185 70 a little slower etc

I appreciate that much of this would get lost in tyre pressure anyway, but interested to know...

it's about tire cross section to wheel cross section ratios... need to go to the fine print from the tire manufacaturer to see their recommendation for what the optimum ratio is for their tire design... it used to be generally thought that the rim not be less than 65% of tire cross section, with a 100% rim to tire being the most stable... ( back in the day Michelein designed a a wide cross section tire for a 3.5" rim )... it's about how a tire behaves on a rim, for general use going up or down a tire size should not be critical as long as the tire fits with adaquate clearance... in performance mode it becomes critical how a tire loads up... it is possible to roll a large tire off a too narrow a rim... check the fine print from the tire manufacturer, they all have that info

Ahhhh the sixties... I envision myself one early Saturday morning wearing plaid shorts, black shoes with white socks smoking a cigarette heading to the hardware store to buy a bag of nails.
SWB cars are an acquired taste however once acquired theirs no turning back.
