The car is in fine condition with some very tasty ($$$) mods that at least two guys wanted bad enough...

Most E9 owners would love to have something like this, but very few would be likely to spend that kind of money.

When first series CSLs start regularly cracking $100,000 (forget about approaching RS touring prices) I'll think about selling.

People always get silly at auctions. Why you DON'T want to buy at an auction.

A Ferrari Mondial went for $85,000 (more than 2x book) and a '75 S Targa brings $55,000? Give me a break.

What is also interesting is that it is a very late 1974 USA model that originally had the giant "Parade" bumpers. The car has been back-dated to look like a 1973 with Chrome/Euro bumpers... The back-date process is basic but does require cutting and welding to finish properly...

Most would also never notice that the car has the very late 1974 3.0CS big electric mirror only on the left side and a non-matching smaller chrome mirror on the right side. They are rare but they do make an electric mirror for the right side... I know I have one.

The first photo is a 1974 USA model with the big bumpers and electric mirror the second photo is a 1973 and earlier with the small chrome bumpers... Similar in appearance with 911s with later style bumpers and mirrors...

I am sure glad that no one would ever back date a 1974+ 911 to look like an early 911 long hood!

It was a beautiful car indeed, and I was curious if that was a record price. Great color combo, although I think the earlier style seats are prettier than the ones in the Don Davis car.

Prices HAVE gone crazy on all classics it seems.

I have my eyes on a Euro 635 for one of our "own". Not this one but similar. Hartge cylinder head, Alpina Wheels and perceived by the owner as being as quick as his M6.

    Tom,
635? I know where there's a 912E you may also be interested in.

912-E: "under-loved" cars. My Dance Card is full and that's why I'm not after the 635. I'd take either of my friend's BMW's. The M6 has but 25,000 miles on it. I went with him when he bought it 10 years ago. It's a horse.

    Thanks!

Today I spoke to the shop owner that did some of the restoration on the 1974 BMW 3.0CS that just sold for insane money... Finally a BMW 3.0CS gets the attention they deserve!...

He said the car was a very good, and very straight and solid car that was color changed from Malaga (Maroon) to Black. They did a complete mechanical restoration and upgrades were done like a 3.5 Liter and a 5 speed, Bilsteins etc.

Overall a stunning and very late BMW 3.0CS!

I wonder if the "Great Pumpkin" is now worth almost that much especially since it has the same Mods and was originally a chrome bumper car? Not likely eh

    Peanut

All of the E9 seats are identical just the pleats are horizontal after 9/1973...

One of the first BMWs I drove belonged to my then-boss. It was a Hartge H6, if i recall correctly. It was verrrry fast and a great boulevard cruiser. '85 and was seized from a Miami drug dealer. I think it had buffalo skin seats or something. It prompted me to buy my first CS.
