Best tire size for 66 SWB w 7x15's?

Before you say they won't fit, let me clarify that I have flared fenders on the car. Car has 205/60 15's now. Is that a good size or do I want to consider other options? Also, what are some recommended brands for this size. I am going for the sports purpose look. Thanks

I am using 185/70 Vredestein Sprint classics on 15x6 now-- they are a good compromise between light weight and tread width. SWB cars in particular have a heavy suspension, so minimizing unsprung weight is a good idea, and unless you are racing, the extra rubber is overkill. I would go as light and as narrow as possible for street use, maybe use a spacer in the rear to put the wheel in the flare better.

185/70 on a 7x15? I did not think you could run this skinny of a tire on a 7" wide wheel? Thanks

Check out 205/50, 205/55, or to really get down - 225/45. These tires will put the car on the ground (23" tall) for better handling, and have 7.5 to 8.5 tread width. These are for sporty street/autocross purposes on 7's, and they're no heavier than 195's or your typical 205/60.

Can you elaborate on the "SWB cars...have a heavy suspension" comment? I can tell you that my Steelies are very heavy compared to my Fuchs with 195s.

Does anyone have any pics of car w shorter tires than the 60 series, like the 205/55 mentioned? I like the idea of the car being lower but worry about not filling the fenders and having it look funny. I am also concerned about the speedo error. Not sure how off the 205/60's are but the 205/55 drops even more.

The control arms that have to transmit the springing forces in bending are heavy, the bolt-together strut is heavy, the rear suspension is well...

Back in the 1977 friend of mine bought a 74 911 with 185/70/15's on 7in all around. It looked pretty "cool" as remember. I would like to see a picture to refresh my memory.

I run 195/65/15 on 7s all around, but mine is a LWB so may not be pertinent. Apologies if so. Left rear rubs rarely, right rear never rubs.
