Steps Needed to Create a Documented Car

I know that there are a lot of experts on this Registry who probably have a systematic way of documenting these early cars. Can anyone offer any advise as to this procedure, I would like to create a paper story on my 1971 911T Targa, any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not certain what you are really asking. I think I would start by finding all the appropriate #'s on the car; if the body is Karmann then there is an extra serial to find. Check and see if they seem to match. Probably get a COA. Then document the items on the COA with photographs. You can also try and research the ownership history of the car. Do you document maintenance history? What about events that the car has participated in? Historical photo gallery?

Ok, yes I already have the COA and everything matches up including the "Frankfurt" radio, all deep 6 Fuch wheels (5 including the spares) are date matched. Only maintenance that is documented is what I have done since I bought it back in July of 2011 which included a PPI and some of the recommendation completed. I was more or less looking for some guidance on what should and can be documented for the next owner. What is the best way to discover previous ownership, car did not come with any original documents like maintenance booklet. I guess I am looking for some guidance on producing a booklet or binder of important info to pass on to the next owner.

I have a similar interest, as I've reached out to previous owner but to no avail. PCA couldn't help all that much. Kardex appear to be hen's teeth, and I'd love to know where it was first sold, etc.

You do not have to order a CoA to get most of the info you seek. I see little point in the CoA if not you are going to sell a car. I just send a mail to the official importer here and receive a mail a week later with all the CoA info for free. Normally the first dealer info is also included. If you run into problems, I can try to send a request to my contact here.

Another method: an uninterrupted chain of documents starting with the original credit union loan papers in January 1971 ($235/month for 2 years!) and following through to the new shift knob I bought last week. Never bothered with a COA

    Fingerprints

    Don't forget to look at/on the car closely . . .

People stick all kinds of stuff onto cars . . . not just dealer license frames or receipts stuffed in the glove-box, but HOA parking passes, oil-change stickers, vendor stamps on parts --- like, when Eurometrix re-builds the MFI pump . . . they stamp it

    I'd heard A Story that my car came from Switzerland. So? --- one day . . . I take a close look at The Nasty Car's key-fob . . .

    Davos --- as in . . . Switzerland!

I'd been handling it for two years . . . never even bothered to look at it close

    There all the time

If it was a Swiss delivered car, then it would have an AMAG Lauf Nr tag.

    . . . and even if it only 'passed through'? . . .

    . . . then ASTRA --- ~Swiss DMV . . . will have a record . . .
