    Dean Jeffries R.I.P.

    http://deanjeffries.com/

He told a bunch of us that he bought that Ford GT prototype from Ford in the late '60's for one dollar.........
On one of his visits to Ford he asked one of the execs what that was under the tarp, exec said "It's one of the first two GT's, why, you want it?"... Dean said sure, the exec said they would have to charge him a buck and put it through the company paperwork....... The car came with a bunch of spares as well.

Dean and his son finally finished the restoration about 10 years ago.... and so it goes

Another of the legends gone. His cars were so much better than Barris's

During my tenure at the Petersen I had to the opportunity see a lot of Barris's work, on display and in the vault. His stuff was made for the movies and looked good on camera, especially in that era of film, up close it was mostly crap. The Batmobile fetching what it did was temprorary insanity. Dean Jeffries was a real craftsman and built high quality interesting stuff. He had a place out in Mojave, I saw an interview of Dean done by Huell Howser or someone...

That's an understatement... but hucksterism and flash attracts the public's attention. Jeffries was a genuine artist and behaved like one.
His range of work is as impressive as any famous carrosserie, all impeccably executed and of refined taste, which belied his lack of formal education.

His was a natural design talent propelled by curiosity, fueled by steel and gasoline. A rare combination. RIP.
