Late 68 with 69 front fenders possible?

As the title says, is it possible a late 68 R.O.W. build would of received 69 fenders. I know they've more than likely been changed however I wonder if it's possible this may have happened in the production run change over.

I don't think that ever happened, but who knows?
Years ago, I sold a tail light lens to a local customer with a 69 912 Targa. He called and stated that the lens wouldn't fit. I responded that that was impossible, I never make mistakes (Ha!)
He said he could bring to car to the shop and show me. He showed up and sure enough the lens wouldn't fit. The car was fitted with 68 tail lights! I looked at the chassis number and it's chassis number ended with 0001. The first 69 Targa produced! I guess chassis number 2 got the new tail lights and the corresponding correct tail light buckets for a LWB car.

    Regards
