    Strange Engine Number

I'm working on an engine that is supposed to be a 1970 2.2L. It has Zeniths. The engine number is 6022930. It doesn't seem to match any of my references. Any help appreciated.

I don't know of any serial starting with 60. Give me a photo of the serial #, the engine type #, and the case casting part #'s (901.101.101 xR and 901.101.102 xR from the sides of the case under the oil return tubes.

Looks hand-stamped. But why this number?

    Hi Curt,

Agreed, the font of those numbers are not factory correct and there are no stars on the ends of the number sequence. The '6' is a give away. Guess that explains it somewhat. At least it is not a duplicate of an original serial number. Is there a type number in the usual location?

Edit: looks like 911/07 which is consistent with what it is supposed to be.

The 2.2R casting revision is 1970 or very early 1971, however the serial is missing the stars, and the stamping area looks a little strange. If there is a type #, then I would think it was a shaved and stamped serial, if not then a new unstamped case was used. If no type #, then I would shave off the serial you have there, and leave it blank.
