5 of the 20 cars built by Porsche went to Richard's company ProDrive (maybe better known during their Subaru WRC days with McRae, Burns and Solberg) and prepped as rally cars. Not sure about Tuthill's involvement.

Francis Tuthill was involved with the SCRS's..... the premises of both organisations are close to one another.

I'll leave it to people more expert than I to fill in all of the details, but when i was there once in the late 90's - being made to feel most welcome - there were Rothmans bits strewn around the place.

When I asked I was told that Tuthills did a lot of work on the cars, and worked closely with Prodrive and learnt a hell of a lot about where the 911 body shells required strengthening. Its no coincidence that people now line up to have them build their historic rally cars I suppose.

I can confirm that Tuthill did shell work for Richards in period, as I have seen original photos when visiting to check on a build I commissioned- a FIA SCRS competition car using an original engine and 1984 turbo look donor. Their previous SCRS experience and maintained closeness with Prodrive, as well as the great experience they have amassed since with historic porsche rally cars, were critical to getting the car properly sorted. For instance my side mirrors are molded right off the Rothmans car currently at Prodrive..

The Rothman's car were built by Dave Richards Engineering, it was yet to be renamed Prodrive. There were reputedly 6 cars build, but there were definitely a couple of spare shells which may or may not have become complete cars. Identifying these cars is extremely difficult as they cut out the VINs when they modified the front ends with different tanks and extra reinforcement, they also tended to put switches and cut-outs in the knee roll area, often removing the build number in the process. They allocated their own build numbers, but these were not in the same order as the VINs. The UK registration numbers were often switched between cars as were the aluminium VIN plates, a very common activity in the early days of works rallying and carnets.

Most of these Rothmans cars ended up in the USA when in 1987 a Mr Kelly bought 4 cars and a load of spares, 2 were sold to Almeras. One crashed car was rebuilt into another shell.

There is a guy in my hometown that has an aluminum hood from one of these models. I might be able to snag it from him if somebody wants one
