That is excellent work. It is, however, engraving and not stamping. It would be good for later paint code plates.

Well, further to this thread, I gave up and "restored" the ruined paint/VIN tag plate as best I could. Now my challenge is the alu VIN tag form the front of the car. On the subject car, it was lost in the color change and I have a proper blank for the year/model, but I do not have a stamping resource for this tag.
Anyone?

That's great, Dirk. Would I be able to pay you to do the same for me?

Just adding to Dirk's kindness. I think Dirk's look good.
I have these stamps in Santa Cruz.
I've had them 20+ years and used them 3 times.
My "3" is not flat on top.
I could grind the "9" to look better.
You can borrow if you wish.

Thank you, Scott. As luck would have it, I do not need a "3."
The tricky part, as I mentioned before, is that the stamps need different levels of pressure, depending on how much surface they are distorting, and I have a 1 and an 8 next to each other. So I may need a few beers before tackling it!

They seem to make the same depth. If you keep a consistent hit.
The real problem comes with the spacing. And a twisted number.
I practice on a very similar thickness aluminum.
You have to hit it on hardwood. And softwood. And on steel.
Then choose the one you want.
I draw the numbers out on tape.... So you can get the spacing right.
The tape is right there. Next to it. You can even hit on top of the tape. Which might get real accurate.
And you use that bottom ledge. With a touch of the stamp, to get them all the same height.
I just did the brass plate by eye. So you could see them.
