As in every other addiction, when the user stops using. As long as someone out there is willing to pay, the market will exist.
Although, even though we think some of this stuff is overpriced, in relation to new cars the prices are cheap. e.g. a friend just had to pay $1,000 for an Audi Q5 passenger side mirror (installed).

A good friend sold a cracked dash (1 crack) for a remarkable $600. I sold mine as well but it had an additional crack and suffered a $200 penalty which I still felt was more than adequate.

I am relatively new to the early 911 club and have been astonished at the prices of parts for these cars. I came from the Alfa world where prices were significantly less. How do parts prices compare to the high end stuff like front engine v12 Ferrari, or vintage MB? Anyone with experience?

How about Porsche window stickers (2.2, Marken Weltmeister) that original owners scraped off because they were "ugly advertisements for Porsche that blemish my new car" . . . and we now desperately seek to reproduce and stick back on 40-year old cars.
