Tourist Export Zoll Z plates 1969 911 Targa, help tracking vin number

    Hi Members,
Just wonder if anyone can help me trace a vin number for a 1969 911T that was first registered on tourist/export Z Zoll plates for the customer to drive around Europe after which they would return it to the Porsche factory for transport to the home USA dealer for the customer to collect state side.
    The Z tourist/export number 428 Z 5744
These number were issued by the German customs Dept who had offices in the manufacturing plants in Porsche/M-Benz/BMW etc back in 1969
The attached photo is me and my late mother who passed away 4 years later which is why i would like to trace the car.
    Regards

You probably know that the first three numbers are the location where the plate was issued. The index changed in 1967, here is an incomplete list of the Hauptzollamt codes.

Alas "428" is not listed but hopefully this will lead you to other resources.

Perhaps one of the native Germans could help us understand the Customs plate system better.

    Good luck! Thanks for posting.

That is Helpful- which Hauptzollamt issued 428 plates after 1967? Did it change?

Many thanks for the posts, for some reason the site is not mailing me when I have replies, the photos were taken in 1969 for sure which ties in with fap901 post details, it's my understanding that both Porsche & M-Benz had German customs dept's on site in the factory during this period issuing these plate.
If anyone has contacts in Porsche and can point me in the right direction to retrieving the VIN it would be the first big step in locating the car.
Thanks again for taking the time to reply to my post
    Regards
    John
