    McQueen Drives Porsche

This is an original Porsche factory poster. The story goes that Porsche produced the poster without getting the official release from one of the movie studios which took objection to the likeness of Steve McQueen on an advertising poster for Porsche. I have been told that many of the posters were destroyed and/or recalled from circulation. What I have never been able to find out is how many were initially produced. Maybe somebody reading this could chime in with some detailed information about how many of these posters were produced and some info about how they were distributed. It seems like certain dealers like Vasek Polak had 20 or more of each poster produced sent to him by Porsche - does anybody know if these early factory posters were distributed to the dealers for free? Did they offer them for sale to customers? It seems that service managers and mechanics that worked in dealerships were often able to take a few home. This poster does have a tear at the top and at the bottom. The poster is not linen backed - so you know what you are getting. Once a poster is glued on a piece of linen backing ( actually a cotton material) repaired, colored, patched, etc. they do seem to loose something in the restoration. Same as the cars, original patina is just different than restored. Price is $5000 + shipping and I will throw in the frame if you want it - other wise it will be shipped very carefully rolled up in a tube. If you are interested I can send you close up pictures of the tears. This is an amazing poster and when you have it displayed you can discover something very interesting, McQueen was captured in this photo in incredible detail, but the interesting thing about the photo is that you can not "look him in the eye". No matter which direction you try to look at the poster Steve is always looking around you. Peter Revson is the one actually driving the 908 shown in the picture.
