Car went dead in the middle of the road

They say timing is everytning,,,,, Memorial Day was not an easy day to get a flatbed. So, I filled the tank up, drove 1/16 of a mile and dead. I doubt it is the gas, even through timing is dead on. The car was running great and just went completely dead. I can smell gas at the engine bay after truning it over and it sounds very healthy. So, now I am thinking spark. Can you just lose spark like that,,,, boom dead?

If it is about the spark, does the coil matter in this instance, and where else would I go? Any ideas? This is for a 1790 S.

    Thanks,

    John

Coil and CDI box, points, all the basics, and make sure all the wires are attached to each....spark is easy to diagnose, grab a rag, and/or heavy pair of gloves, pull a spark plug wire an inch off its plus and listen for a snap snap every rotation of the motor. I'm happy to lend a hand if you need it, you've got my email.

I had a couple colils do that to me. A vw beetle coil from your local Pep Boys will get you home in a pinch and is a cheap way to rule it out.

I had a feeling it was the coil and luckily had a good used one in the parts bin. The car started right up.

Thanks a lot guys for jumping in and helping out!
