Six inch Fuchs on a 68S

I know there is no "right" answer to this, but I'm looking for any opinions.

I have a 68 911S, Targa Softwindow. I'm doing a total and exhaustive restoration. My question is that the car came with a good set of 6" Fuchs that I'm about to send out to be refinished, probably at Wiedman's. In checking publications, I have noticed that the 68's came with 5.5's.

I looking for any opinions whether I should have the 6's refinished and forget about it or find a trade for 5.5's and then have them refinished?

I've made every effort to keep the car as close to original as possible with some very minor changes like the overflow mod to the engine case and MSD ignition in place of the original ignition.

BTW, this is an ROW car.

    Thanks
    Larry

Check with Harvey Wiedman about availability of 5.5" rims in trade for the 6". If your 6" rims are "heart" type that may be close enough for you. Non heart deep 6 or the flat 6 are progressively further from original.

If yours are deep sixes, they are roughly equivalent in value to the one year 5.5s. Harvey probably has a set he'd trade you straight up.

There is a "right" answer and I think you just answered it.

My 68 911S coupe seems to have been delivered with deep sixes from new.

That is not likely, unless you have one of the very last 68s made. Even then, I would doubt it.

I have a set of 5.5 x 15 if you are interested in a trade.

Anything is possible if you have a car produced very close to the beginning/end of a production year.

I guess it is possible but I have seen evidence that even some of the 69Ts had 5.5s.
The 6s were certainly available through the race dept as 911R fronts.
Maybe it was a S thing. What are the dates of your 6s?

And then there's the issue of date codes...
