    Oil indication above max?

    Hi

My oil indication is above maximum
Checked all wires on instrument and all ok
Checked wires on oil tank and brown one was loose but was hard to see how it should be installed ( the wire)
Does anyone has a pic from an oiltank with the brown wire correctly installed.
    It is from a 911S, my 1968

Or is the indication problem something else?

    Any help appreciated

Is the gauge just pegged @ max? What does the dipstick read?

You may want to pull the sender to make sure it's in good shape.

    Hi Kent

    Dipstick reading is fine
It showed good in the beginning around 6 or 7 I belief to remember but after some driving it went to above max and stayed there also when engine was out and ign switch on

    Where is the sender located?

Oil quantity gauges are troublesome at the best of times.

My bet is on the earth from the sender (brown wire) without it connected it will peg the gauge.

If that doesn't work, it's probably the sender, rather then the gauge. IMO

PS. the sender is in the oil tank, float type deign.

If the sender to gauge wire is disconnected, corroded or broken along the way it will also peg the gauge. In later cars the sender wire came in through the right tail light plug in the engine compartment, not sure what they did in '68 though. You could try exercising the plug to see if it clears up a corrosion issue.

If you are saying the brown wire is NOT connected then you have found your problem. Using a temporary jumper wire (alligator clip on each end) attach one end to the brown wire and the other to ground (any metal part of the car) now see if the gauge reads correctly, if so you just need to ground that brown wire. What kind of end does the brown wire have? If a female spade end then there should be a male spade terminal on one of the sender bolts that the female spade pushes onto, if the brown wire has a ring terminal then it is just is attached under one of the sender retaining bolts. Your sender wires are routed through the fender brace.
