    No engine number??

No engine number stamp... What does that mean?

you have a factory replacement case, good news. leave it unstamped and you have an honest engine that will not detract much from the value. that is assuming it is the proper type of engine for your car.

Interesting that it says Made in Germany not West Germany. Almost everything was W Germany from after the war till unification.

How much does "not detract much" mean. This is a 912 FYI...

It will not lead to a much lower price (v.s. a matching one).

Or re-stamped and sold as original matching engine.

I find it fascinating that this is arguably a controversial sin now but back in the day was done by dealers on a regular basis.

Very true, event the factory did it on a regular basis. Many states/ country's require the correct numbers on the engine.

I think an inordinate amount of value/ discount is placed on matching/ non - matching. It really should not matter much at all, as long as the engine is correct for the car.
