    Rear suspension crossmember 901.501.075.21

    Hello,

So after a year of restoration, sandblasting the underside reveals significate rust damage to turrets, When turrets are rusted, what do people do? Fabrication, salvage from donor? Can later chassis 911.501.075.07 be used/ modified?

    Thoughts / help please.

Yes you can use a later one. I replaced the crossmember in my '70 with one out of a '74- it has larger shock openings and a slightly different angle, allowing use of aluminum trailing arms and coilovers. I'm pretty sure that it works fine with the stock suspension as well.

Wait, the original poster has a '68, correct? If so, then he can't use the post 1968 piece without also converting to long wheelbase!

edit: Sorry, I was thinking of the torsion tube, not the crossmember where the dampers mount. If I had a 1968, though I would not count on anything other than a 1968 crossmember fitting, or at least a short wheelbase one.

You're right - I didn't see that in his signature. I know that they can interchange on LWB cars, but I don't know about his '68; somebody check PET

I have a 68 912 swt that if I cant get rid of the rest of the chassis I would cut this for you if needed. I will also ask a friend in town who may have one cut from a 68.
drop me a note with contact info if interested.

    Regards

Jerry, I could use a section between the gas tank & gages. Someone in the past cut two holes so they could mount speakers towards their feet. Let me know if you can accommodate. Mine is a 67 Porsche built 912.
    Thanks Cliff

If I understand you correctly your referencing the shock towers if these are rusted out you can likely have some removed from a donor and reinstall in your
car the trick is likely cutting an access from the interior by opening the panel above the seat pans.
Similar work is often done to race cars or Turbos needing adjustable rear arm mounts ,some leave the panel removeable for easy access ..not necessary in
    your situation...Bert

Oh and I would love to get a look at your '68S ,I have one as well #513 Blood Orange Twin Plug thanks Bert
