Hey John, I was at the Penrith City Exhausts the other day and Dave said that roll cage specs had recently changed. Dave has been building cages for dirt rally cars for some years as well as the "liked" muffler used by most Sydney boys. The new rule related to length between bends, bend angle and bracing.eg front windscreen bar from roof down would need an extra brace from top to half way down at dash level.

Other new rule related to double door bracing/cross piece and double bracing in the roof and main hoop. Sorry I know this isn't very accurate, but just be aware you need more, rather than less and you builder should be aware! I'm sure the diagram and details are on the CAMS website.

So I hear there may be a move towards a "minimum weight" for the Group S category?

Can anyone confirm? I'm hoping to avoid scraping the body schutz off my car

Andy, I had a discussion about the cage with AGI and was assured the double-bar intrusion bars would be included, but I'm not sure I understand the double bracing in the roof/main hoop area...

No, minimum weight is not something on the radar as I am aware.

FYI my car was 949kg at the weigh in at SMSP in June. Curnick was 999kg and Wayne's car was a little lighter than mine again, around 940.

    Alex,

While running at Morgan Park I heard that the CAMS eligibility officer for the category, discussing this with one of the competitors, and that there was likely to be a move towards minimum weights in the future.

    Tim,

This had been on the agenda for ages. Last time it was discussed in a forum of Group S competitors was at Sandown 2010 meetings. It was shutdown pretty quickly by heavy hitters.
The status quo seems to be hard to budge.

Quick update. I decided not to run the nadella reinforced drive shafts and sold them to a well known and respected restorer in the States. They were valuable enough to put towards other aspects of my car's build.

New cage has been built, gets paint tomorrow and and should be delivered late this week. We've currently got our house up for sale at the moment, so all car work is on a hiatus But on the plus side, I have found a house with a 10 car garage However the wife isn't as enamoured of it as I...

John, "a house with a 10 car garage", or "10 car garage with a house"? Garage envy is developing ...
