    Gap???

I am about to put a new sound pad in the engine compartment of my 72. I was talking with someone and there was a question raised asking if there was a gap between the cross member structure at the front of the engine and the body. I think the comment was that if this gap were open it would allow dust/dirt to be sucked into the engine compartment.

So with then NVH pad out, on my car there is an open gap there.

The question is... does that need to be filled? What goes in there? Does the sound pad block it?

    What do the experts recommend?

    Thanks

There is a rubber tube like seal that goes there. Looking at the manual I think it's part # 90150499120 "engine compartment seal"

Actually I see one on stoddard. Part # 911-504-115-02

The SWB cars used that tube affair, the later ones used two square cut black foam pads that are shoved into the space.

The LWB cars had the two foam pads as Ed said. You can still get them from Porsche. They go above the flapper boxes. They won't seal the whole area. The center area will still be open. This is how they did it. I looked at original cars with engines out to get it right.

So is there a good material to use for this purpose? I will start looking - see what Stoddard has and our host. What other options are effective?
