    'Chain of Custody'

    Interesting choice of words, J . . .

. . . 'cause I was noticing that there seem to be two entities doing business from that same address/same time --- 11300 Playa, Culver City . . .

Volkswagen Pacific + Porsche Car Distributors, Inc.

    Why two?

'Cause that means that there are a total of four separate entities involved w/ transacting Porsches

    Manufacturer:
    ..Porsche KG, Stuttgart

    Distributor:
..Porsche Car Distributors, Inc, Culver City

    Distributor:
    ..Volkswagen Pacific, Culver City

    Dealer:
    ..eg. Vasek Polak, Hermosa
    ..eg. Competition Motors, Woodland Hills
    ..etc-etc . . .

Was one distributor for 'dealers' and the other for 'customers'?

    Vintage MSO

This matches-up w/ what I would've expected, after reading the Aug '68 PDL . . . namely, the transfer of title to a car from Porsche Car Distributors (distributor) to VP (dealer)

Talk about documentation . . . how-in-the-world did you get this document? I've only ever heard of these things . . . never actually seen one

Amazing stuff, J! . . . and thanks for posting this

Of note is that as Porsche dealers added the Audi line to create 'Porsche+Audi" in 1969, those dealers were renumbered with a letter "A" as the 4th digit.
    e.g:
Carlsen P/A became 426 A18 (Palo Alto, Ca)
Anderson Behel became 426-A08 (Santa Clara, Ca)

Pretty sure those are the correct codes, I worked at each in the '70s...

No händler codes on the early Kardexes, at least I have never seen one. WE means Werk (Factory) and is a good thing

    ok folks -

I have to ask, definitively - can I get a Kardex for my car? Is there a secret code or are those days over? COA on order, but I have read that the COA replaces Kardex copies for reasons associated with privacy laws. I want the one for my car. Perhaps a vacation to Stuttgart? Thanks for entertaining this seaming naive p-car question! I just want to see 'händler' written on a document associated with 308427S

I knew I saw that somewhere back in the dark ages while lurking here. I am antsy on this historical quest, just beginning... Cheers -
