    Hi All -

    I've had some issue clarifying the handler number with Classic Porsche, unsure if anyone can provide further info on the two handler numbers I've been told associate with my 71' 911S. On a previous email he stated 098 and a more recent email he stated 097.

    "Hallo Mr.Swanson,

    097=storage car from distribution company
    098=presentation car from distribution company

    mit freundlichen Grüßen

    Marc Noack

    Technische Marktbetreuung
    Porsche Classic"

    Does anyone know what these are? Trying to establish vehicle history.

    Thank you, Dan

    Just a quick update. 098 is generally a Factory car assigned to the Presse department at the time. Some were demonstrators, but I think most were used as race cars.
    The handler was generally the regional distributor, not a dealer as such. So Hahn & Raffay in Germany each had a network of dealers that they managed; sometimes 30 to 50 dealers. In the USA there were a lot of distributors that changed often, so it is hard to know exactly when each was in operation. The Ux codes in the US are more directly related to Ports of Entry, and several distributors had multiple PoE's; generally we can then associate a distributor with a PoE and thus determine the states into which the car could have been sold. The most reliable way to know the selling dealer is from a bill of sale or an entry in the maintenance record book for the car; assuming those records were kept with the car, but if not then it is nearly impossible.

    Thanks Dave,

    Since my original post, I have received confirmation that it was a Trade/Press car that was given to the sales development center in Weissach for advertising and demo purposes. My hope/goal would be to locate original photos or advertisements where the car was featured. Any suggestions on how to go about that would be appreciated

    Dan,

    Here is a link to factory photos from August 1972.

    https://members.rennlist.com/911pcars/72index.htm

    If your car had a Stuttgart plate, it might be between the S-AA nnnn factory plates used for the 1971 African rally, and S-AK nnnn plates used for cars in the 1972 Monte Carlo Rally. A guess, and it is only a guess,is that S-AE nnnn plates were issued in August 1971.

    Is there any info on Amag’s dealer ID network system?
    I’m trying to determine who is 133 918.
    Porsches dealer ID system does not match anything of Amag’s.
    Regards
