Thread: S fan Shroud that is almost Orange

S fan Shroud that is almost Orange

    All:
The fan shroud I have from a late '72 production engine is almost Orange. I ordered a new fan shroud from Damon and I was amazed the color difference and so was he.

Damon has graciously agreed to match the color of my old fan shroud, but I thought I would ask folks opinions on '72S-'73S fan shrouds that are almost orange

Will post a picture of the two this evening

    Thx...DM

If there is anyone on earth who can match it - it is he, leader of the RED S ARMY

My 10/72 production S has the original shroud which is now more orange than red. I left it that way and after a thorough clean up looks just right on my maintained but not restored car.

Someone posted a "fix" a long time ago. It involved mixing 1 part red dye to 30 parts rubbing alcohol (not sure on the proportions) and then rubbing it on. It might not be concourse, but it will bring the red back a bit without looking painted on.

I can't find the thread, but thought that I read a thread one time that discussed the different hues of red shrouds and that the later cars...say ''72 and '73 had a more orange hue to the shrouds when they were new than the earlier shrouds

Calling the experts...was that the case?

After re-reading my old thread, and after re-doing my shroud with this same technique about every other year for the last 10 years since written... I would change the formula to about 50/50 dye and alcohol.

Putting on about 6000 rough miles a year, with the heat, and cleaning... I find the red needs to be refreshed about every 2 years.... I do this with the shroud in place and the air cleaner off... takes about 30 minutes.

    Cheers

I think yours is TOO orange, and maybe Damons is a little too red. (so what makes you think I'm in politics?
