Like most Porsches out there is always a good back story to the history of the car. I purchased this car on the spot
when I saw it a while back. I saw a local ad with little to no discription but it did mention the year and model with a picture.
For some reason I thought it would be prudent to make the hour drive ASAP, to see what was described as "original bumpers available"
I'm glad I did, I spoke to the owner for sometime who happened to purchase this car from the original owner back in the mid 80's.
A semi retired mechanic who spent his life working on Alfa's ,Fiats and anything from back home (Italy). Car has 70k on the clock and is rust/damage free (well as rust and damage free as a 42yr old car can be).
He had kept all original parts in an old attic which had been covered with 20yrs of dust. It was a days work just getting the parts loaded
Which was a fun adventure in itself.
Now onto the car, It was well worth the trip. Many parts had been upgraded the most important was the 2.2 was replaced with a 3.2 from an
84. All new engine mounts bigger swaybars, a Front strut brace I had not seen before? as well as Late "S" brakes. etc etc. The car was
rough around the edges as it had not seen much use. Wiring is a bit of a rats nest interior needs to be brought back to life etc. All of which
I am taking care of.
As of now the carbs have been rebuilt
901 Tranny fully rebuilt, shifts smooth.....with nice long throws
MSD ignition system is intalled
Engine has been refreshed ,valves new pistons/sleeves ,con rods. only thing left untouched was the crank.
Car came with a whale tail and mirrors from a 993 as well as Mitsubishi seats??. All of which are on the list for replacement.
This build is going to be a little different and will morph as the time passes. Still not sure on what if anything to do with the body.
The interior is coming out and will be refreshed and painted. The same will happen to the trunk area. Still trying to decide on what if any
flares will be added. Car is rust free and extreamly solid could not be happier.
This weekend all painted chrome will be stripped and brought back to original.
Engine deck lid was replaced last night...it's funny how a 30min job always takes 2 hours??
I did not get a chance to take pictures of all the work but here is some of the progression i.e whale tail removed
etc.I will document as I go. This build is going to be a little different then most. Not sure how yet but it will.
Cheers
John
