    The value of a 68 911t

I found the car in a barn and brought the car home. It is need of restoration to say the least. I found the production numbers in a book entitled "the Porsche Book-A definitive illustrated history" by Lothar Boschen and Jürgen Barth; and they describe the production number to be very low (approximately 373) if I am reading the numbers correctly; the problem is that my VIN number starts with 118 (a '68 from my understanding, and the book states the VIN should start with 119...). The COA says that I have a 1968 built on September 15, 1967 but, is very minimal outside of the only upgrade being Phoenix tires.

The trans and engine are numbers matching, according to my COA; and the door paint code matches the polo red (even tho the car has been repainted).

I am not sure of what to do with the car just due to the repairs needed (like a dip in a non destructive alkaline). What I would like to know is it worth my time to get a driver out of it or to fully resto the car since there are not very many left. I don't quite know if I am interested in keeping this extent of a project at this time or if it might be better off in someone else's garage... I was advised to post on this site as well to make sure that I am doing the right thing with the most knowledge of the car.
I also have this on the Pelican forum, where they have stated that the car has the 69 fenders and not the typical 1968 lip.
I was also informed that a few 1968 cars (possibly 20) could have been produced with he 69 fenders.
Just trying one shot at the holy grail or a hot mess.
    Thank you for any assistance.

    John

Ahhhh the sixties... I envision myself one early Saturday morning wearing plaid shorts, black shoes with white socks smoking a cigarette heading to the hardware store to buy a bag of nails.
SWB cars are an acquired taste however once acquired theirs no turning back.

would love to have it in my garage to take care of it.

My 2 cents : if you feel someting for this car, keep it and take the time to get it on the road again. trust me you will not regret it, you will spend the rest of your life saying : I did the right thing

    Strange.

My friend Craig sent me pics of this car last night which I thought he had secured with a deposit, plane ticket and truck rental.

The 8 in 118 is for the 1968 model year.
In 1967 there were no 1969 model year fenders available. There should have been side marker lights on the 4 corners.

I as well, thought all '68 cars had 118 in the VIN. Did the book really show what you've mentioned?

"my VIN number starts with 118 (a '68 from my understanding, and the book states the VIN should start with 119...)."

Here is a picture that John sent me last night. The car has SWB horn grills so my guess is that the flared lips were just butt welded to the original 68 fenders to clear the fuchs 7" wheels that were on the car when found.

I pick up the car this Saturday.....can't wait! See you soon John.

according to my version of the book, this is a 1967 built . 1968 start with 119. keep in mind the milesime which there is the building year, and the milesime year.
Your car was built in 1967, and is a 1968 model.

    Cheers
