JE & Carrillo: inside contact urgently needed!

    Gentlemen,
my dear engine broke a Carrillo con rod, smashing basically the whole longblock, crank etc. We could not determine any mechanical wear or defect that could be the likely cause of the con rod failure.

Since I run custom JE pistons I need an inside contact at Jerry Woods who would be in a position to check how fast I can get a replacement piston.

Also, I would like to get a similar contact at Carrillo to discuss possible reasons for the fracture and how I should proceed.

    Thank you for your help!
    Keep up the speed!

We have seen this before in the vintage racing community. Now most guys only use Pauter rods.
    Thanks,

Not that I doubt you Chad, but I've always considered Carillos to be the gold standard! Now you tell me they break!!! Does it take extraordinary RPM or what IS the cause??

A racer friend had the same thing happen to his 2.0L race motor with Carrillo rods. Early to mid 2000's. We have not used them since. Not sure what the cause, but it was the rod- not an oiling issue if I remember correctly.

Edit- My DAD had one fail also on his 2-liter.

Doesn't Carrillo have a guarantee that their Rods will not break? At least they did when I ran them in my race motors.

Would you give them another chance after destroying a race motor? Not me
    Thanks,

All the vintage Trans Am guys running 500 plus hp run their rods with no failures. I also have never had their Rods fail on me either. Usually there's a underlying reason for the failure. Not saying that a Carrillo Rod couldn't fail, but I find it unusual if they did. I would think that they would go under having to guarantee all of these supposed failures...

I was really devastated that a Carrillo could break in normal road driving use. I never tracked the car, I never drove with revs beyond 7500 rpm. We could not find traces of oiling issues. The issue occured after 11,000 km / 3 years: all warranties void, whole damage hits my bank account...

My engine builder also leans towards Pauter rods for the rebuild. I will try and contact Carrillo to hear what they suggest.
