    K & N filters

I can't seem to locate a thread that answers many questions about the use of these filters in rain hat housings. I have a carb motor with rain hats and True Flow foam filters. I like the induction noise but wondered if the K&N ones are better. Are the K & N ones even suitable for early (non-MFI) 911s?

I am interested in the K&N part numbers and any info on experience with these.

Having owned a few newer diesel pickups and still owning an auto parts store, my conclusion on K&N is that they're not as good as a paper filter when both are new, but they're better than a paper filter when both are dirty. Therefore, I buy paper filters and replace them before they need replacing.

    My opinion.

K&N makes a specific air filter for the above filter housings. Check Pelican Parts, Pegasus Racing, Paragon Porsche and others.

Foam is good, but it tends to deteriorate after awhile.
Paper is better and cheaper if you can find the correct size. I'll attempt a follow up with some part numbers from another computer.

Merv, I think there are paper filters on the K&N filters that came with the two engnes I've just bought. I'll try and find you a part number... might have to be the weekend though.

Thanks that would be helpful. The K&N catelogue is a long one. Ican see one on PP but it appears to be round not oval. That may of course be still correct.

Brilliant thanks Sherwood. These are the filter housings that I have. I assume that several of the filters you list should fit, as they seem to be common housings? From what I can see the K&N ones require a K&N housing. I am not at home now so can't measure.

    Merv,
The filter housings on your engine are made by K&N and are built around their E-3670 filter.

Thanks again Sherwood. They are round but will fit into the oval housing from what you are saying?
