Thread: FS: Marelli S121B *ORIGINAL*

    FS: Marelli S121B *ORIGINAL*

I've decided to put one of my 121 Marelli distributors up for sale. This would be correct for a 2.8L RSR (S121B).

It turns clockwise, and it is the large-shaft version suitable for 2.4L and later engine cases.

ORIGINAL and UNMOLESTED ... comes complete with used cap and rotor.

This Marelli is still equipped with points. However, they are unreliable and should be considered not good. I will include 2 sets of brand new short-lead points, but I do not have any of the long-lead points. Should the buyer intend to continue to run a points ignition, he/she would have to source the long-lead points on their own. I would recommend that anyone who intends to use this distributor send it to Kurt at www.PartsKlassik.com for refurbishment and conversion to Pertronix ignition.

Asking price is $8,000obo + actual shipping via FedEx ground, fully insured for purchase price.

    More pictures available upon request.

I can be contacted directly at TLG_Porsche @ yahoo . com

The emotion provoked by the warm black and white photos almost caused me to hit the "Send Money" button.

    I think they're "almost" meaningful.

Very meaningful: From the color pic it looks as though you have Willow Springs all over your $8,000 distributor. Using rare parts for what they were intended for? Are You Crazy?

    Bananas.

It was not just Willow dirt, but parts of New England and most of the US along I-90 between DC and LA, too.

    Still for sale, BTW.

    Marco,

What is the offset between the two sets of points per upper/lower? Regular dwell is 38 degrees or so, I imagine that the dual points are timed slightly offset so that one set "makes" and grounds the coil negative, allowing current to build up, and the other set "breaks" or opens the connection to ground, causing the field to break down and a spark to occur. There is a practical limit with a single coil (per upper/lower bank) that the dwell period can be extended to still give sufficient time to charge the coil to an energy level necessary to produce a spark, but the dual points certainly help with reliability on the racetrack.

So do you happen to know the specs? I suppose they are in some unobtanium factory book? GLWS

I've asked this question to many people many times before and there was a lot of speculation but no solid answers.

The only definitive answer I got from any sort of manual came from Andy Boyle's last post on this thread ... http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...=Marelli+dwell
