    Refinishing/restoring plastic MFI air box?

Is it possibly to refinish or restore a plastic MFI air box such that it looks like new again? I have two plastic air boxes with scratches, over polished, etc. that need to be restored. I couldn't find any threads that covered how folks do this, if it is even possible, and photos of the results. Is there a recommended process to getting a great factory original finish again? Thanks.

Good question. I've been told that refinishing plastic entails similar steps as paint, but that is the extent of my knowledge.

Is restoring the MFI air box not common? I would think given that the MFI air box is easily removed this would be a very approachable job depending on the process, but perhaps not.

It is not a perfect piece even when new, there are different molding marks on them. It's also made out of some type of greasy plastic. I can't imagine what would adhere to it.
I just wash it down and spray some final finish on mine.

Tough one,,,,, I am not sure that paint is going to work. Since it is plastic, is there any chance it can be machine polished out a bit? A product with a light grit (Griot's polish or plastic polish) may remove some surface issues.

I agree that it is made from a "slimy/oily" plastic. Mine is not so bad, so I just clean it up with a cleaner.

If the box is scratched, careful use of Scotchbrite pads (med, fine, ultra) lubricated with some plastic cleaner (1z einszett deep plastic cleaner) works well to give it a more consistent finish. Not concours, but less distracting than random heavy scratches.
Couple of 911s and some projects.
