Greetings all.
Having just registered, an introduction is in order. My name is Scott and I live in Canton GA (a distant suburb of hegemonic Atlanta). I've been restifying a 1968 911L for about 6.5 years now, having been infatuated with early Porsches for about . . . 6.5 years. Was driving a '72 El Camino SS with a 427 before marriage, sold it to pay for said nuptuals, and was later granted a reprieve from Toyota Gehenna by my wife. Having seen a red '70 Targa in a friend's shop, and henceforth becomming aware that Porsche had been manufacturing cars for more than a few years, I was immediately struck with the idiotic notion to go buy the most affordable early 911 I could find.
The prize I found had spent its formative years vacationing in and around Bedford, OH, likely near a salt plant or in a pool of some sort. Regardless of condition- which was innovatively hidden behind a coat of shiny red paint- I haggled the price down to $5K and skipped back home with my booty. After two drives and a brutal Auburn defeat at the hands of Arkansas, I decided to tear it apart to fix the few rust issues I knew about. So far, the panels I've replaced include:
Left and right front wheel wells
Left and right rear longitudinals/wheel wells
Both longitudinals. Entirely.
Front and rear floor pans
Pedal area and pedal cluster
Front bulkhead/latch panel
Rear latch panel (pieced together from 3 different cars)
Right door
Lower left door
Left and right rear tail light buckets
Left and right fenders
Left headlight bucket (on 'new' fender)
Right front signal bucket (on other 'new' fender)
Rear package shelf
Rear seat area (now an attractive expanse of flat sheetmetal)
Rear "bulkhead" (between seat bottoms and shelf, also sort of flat now)
Left and right latch panels (including forward 6" of quarter on both sides)
Left and right inner rockers
Left and right outer rockers
Left and right fender extensions
Outer 6" of left and right cowl sections
Decklid (because I'm too lazy to fix mine and found another)
Front suspension pan
Fuel tank support
Torque tube
There's probably more but simply typing the list depresses me. Below are some before pics; I'll post some current shots later.
