Todays puzzler: Engine cuts out upon full acceleration

So just drove down to Asheville NC from NYC and back. On both days, towards the end of the day, (in other words after hours of driving), when I pushed the accelerator pedal all the way down the engine cut out, this would be at about 4000rpm. I thought I better pull over to the side of the road right now, but then if I didn't fully accelerate everything was fine. Anyone else ever experience this? Throttle bodies rebuilt recently, injection pump rebuilt by prior owner a few years ago.

Fuel filter clogged. Had this issue where I could feather the throttle and the car would run ok. Under hard acceleration, the engine would cut out. Turned out to be debris in the fuel filter that was not allowing full fuel flow.

might be a good time to check for debris/rust in the tank, too.

In addition to the above good advice consider that a coil could be overheating and also be a possible cause. See if you can borrow a known good coil or measure the coil primary when the problem occurs. Don't have a manual here in front of me but memory says primary should have about 2 ohms resistance. You can look this up in a shop manual.

Thank you everyone! As to the gas tank it is new. I did think I got some dodgy gas before this so will check the filter.

Pressure is 0.8 ± 0.2 bar and flow is 1.8-2.0 liters/minute measured in the loop between the bottom outlet of the spin on filter and the pump inlet. Don't do a Hindenburg!

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a bad fuel pump..... Easy driving was no problem at all, but if I stepped on it, it would cut out. Once RPMs dropped, it would come back to life.

    I'm having the same issue...

On inspection of the engine my ignition coil had come out of the clamp.

    Related?

Update: solved a loose wire on the induction coil.
