    Distributor Differences

    Can you gurus out there tell me the differences between various Porsche distributors?

    The engine in my car is from a '77 (serial 6271562). After pulling the distributor to confirm its part number, I find that it's from a 72 or 73 2.4L (part 0 231 169 004).

    I want to install a Pertronix, and I want to make sure I'm getting the right thing.

    The advance curves are different. I graphed them years ago:



    However, the advance curve does not matter for the choice of Pertronix. What matters for the Pertronix is the design of the points plate. So get the one that goes with the distributor you actually have.

    The pelican parts website lists which part number distributor each petronix is for.

    Thanks all - my question wasn't so much about the Pertronix, but the differences between the different year distributors, which 304065 answered wonderfully.
