1966 Porsche history: 'factory owned' for first 2 years

Very curious about my neighbor's unusual '66. He bought it 45 years ago from an LA Porsche dealer. Prior owner was listed as Porsche. The car came with 15 X 7" fuchs on the rear. Any clues why Porsche would keep a car around for 2 years? Testing or development? VIN is 3033XX...

Anyone else have this kind of history?

Is the rear flared in any way? I'm curious how the 7" rims were fitted.

No flare. They are R rims.

Very interesting, but without the VIN to work with it is hard to research. It could be a demonstrator or a staff car. The Kardex would be revealing.

Kardex was not revealing. Says "test car." The mystery continues.

    What's your translation of "Versuch?"

I think Versuch is closest to experiment[al] in English. German test would be closest to trial- as in a competition like a hillclimb or speed test.
