What are the options for original 73 MFI heat exchangers?

Right now I am running SSIs, although the left side does not have the third outlet for the snorkel pre-heater. My goal is to get as close to stock as possible.

I figure there are 4 options:

    1. Get whatever Porsche is now offering (is it Dansk?)
    2. Dansk stainless steel (do they even offer a non-stainless?)
    3. SSI (may not be available, but it does appear they now offer the pre-heat on the left exchanger)
    4. Try to find an excellent used original set (like searching for a unicorn?)

Any comments on the merits/issues with any of these options (or others) would be appreciated. I've never examined an original factory exchanger side-by-side with the other options, so don't know how close they are in appearance.

I would stick with SSI's I don't think anyone would discount the use of SSI's, of course I'm not into the date matching stuff as others are. You might have a problem finding new SSI's as Dansk bought them and I don't know if production is running yet.

    That's what I did. Found everything I needed in about 3 weeks. I had help but . . . it can be done --- see post #384 . . .

People have been bad-mouthing/pulling-off originals for as long as these cars've been around. Not sure why. I replaced my OEM units --- after 43 years . . . so . . .

    5th option? . . .

Find a Pipe Guy to fab-up that missing pre-heat fitting for your left-side HE --- how tough could it be?

Prolly your cheapest option, as well

Thanks for the ideas. The weld-on idea is a good one. I may try that route. I may then have them ceramic coated grey.

Do you want to make your thermovalve functional again, or is this for esthetics only?
