What to do with 68S Targa with hard window ? was a sporto now with correct S 5 speed

Several years ago I came across this car in LA that was imported when new I originally thought it a soft window but found today it was a hard window ( very rare and one of the first in 68 according to my sources)

Question is what to do with it I have thought about selling it due to its rarity, I came close to making it a soft window as the points are there, whats the Market on this ? Should I take it back to a sporto or keep it a 5 Speed. car has had a new front pan from Zims it looks like done right and a little rust ( like dry climate no salt. Rust a bubble in the left fendor (Pan etc is dry) I am sure there some other panels that are not perfect but its solid and closes like a Porsche. When the carbs were dialed in it flys.

I have a Canary Yellow 68 L softwindow that I am owner 2 and its nearly done as well as some T's Es, Esses 912s and 356s and I realize I can't keep them all

This is a rare car anyway and the hardwindow is one the first I Know some people would want a sporto, sorry not me

help and guidance from the experts here is welcome ( I do not need help selling) and I do not have to sell. This a hard car to value and Its rare enough a collector may want it what to do?

It is very drycar black with Black california plate that runs and drives, It was originaly a Sporto and changed to a correct 901/2 "S" 5 Speed when I got it
It also has a hard rear window all is there except the leather seats ( its interesting that it had 67S Door panels with correct Pockets
for a 67 as well as trim Otherwise its complete except for sporto and the 68 door panels ( I have not seen Elephant hide leather seats or panels ever )

442 S Targas were built in 1968 and 227 were Sporto ( if anyone has a sporto #4180222) please save it

Here are the details from Porsche

I have a 1968 911S Targa that is also a hard window as shown on the COA. It is slightly earlier than yours (11850164). When I bought it the seller made the claim that it was "the first fixed window 1968 Targa", but I have no proof to back up that claim.

The nice thing about a five speed conversion from the Sporto, is that it only really hurts the value a little bit. 10% seems to be the general number anyways. It's a simple fix back to factory, and the five speed is preferred by most anyways. Value on it? No idea. Sorry.

I just sold a 68 S Targa #11850343 as a rolling shell and missing most of of the running gear and interior for about $6k - rust in the usual places. It also had a glass rear window and showed no signs of it having previously been a SWT

I also have a 1968 S Targa Sporto that is a hard window, and even earlier (11850130) built in November 1967 and delivered in Germany, as per the COA. Have owned it since 1986 and currently resides in Greece.

Since you don't like Sportos, I would sell it and put it towards a car you do want to restore. My .02

Since it is a 911S-- the model all collectors want, you are stuck to originality as the best way to go. But since it has been converted to a 5 Speed and you probably do not have the original sporto tranny, just take the 10% hit on value. Today I can not keep up with values of these cars. To me, to convert it back to sporto with a non original tranny and all the trouble with NLA sporto parts. To keep it as a 5 speed is the same problem as a non original sporto tranny installed. JUST DRIVE IT. Chris

My non S 68 hard window 11880065 was built in November 29, 1967. I would keep it as original as possible. I never knew that S cars were built with Sporto option. Always learning something on this board, very cool.

Does anyone know what years the Sporto was available on the 'S'? I'm looking at a 1970-71 vintage PCNA 911 brochure, and it states about the 911S:
"But you can't get a Sportomatic or a 4-speed transmission for the S. Even if you ask. Only a 5. Think you can handle it?"
