I did an article for Vintage Motorsport a few months back. Make sure they have cargo insurance - not just liability. Get a copy of the insurance policy from the insurance agent - not the trucking company.

You can also get the DOT number and look up the specific truck on line. It will have a record of any and all violations for the past few years.

I've used many carriers over the past 33+ years of Porsche ownership

Intercity IMO is just ok...they seem to have their own schedule

The best I've used--any the only one I'll use going forward-- is Plycar.
Absolutely the best service and timing to the minute (eg, when I purchased my GT3RS they said they would be at sellers house in Burbank Ca at 8am...7:55 I get a call from seller stating Plycar was there. Left LA at 8:30 PT/11:30 ET on Wed, in my garage in Atlanta at 3pm on Saturday).

You don't want to end up like this. Carrier had only limited insurance on cargo. http://jalopnik.com/this-600-000-por...-mak-478471305

I have used Thomas Sunday, Reliable & Intercity.

Timing wise, it all depends on where the car is being picked up and where it is to be delivered...and car events going on across the country. Living in a small off the beaten path town in southern Colorado I'm usually not high priortity. Each time I used these transporters it was either Parade, Pebble Beach, or right in between both, which meant hurry up & WAIT. Reliable turned out to be not so much. They took 3 weeks to get the car, then truck broke down (a/c quit), that was 5 days, then shortly thereafter the drivers father passed away...detour to Biloxi, MS. Thomas Sunday was great, driver kept me posted and was on time, plus very reasonable. Latest experience was with Intercity. They have lowered pricing, were on time, and I lucked out with a very good driver Larry Demoise, who used to be partners in another highly recommended company Demoise Trucking. Larry called & texted me along the way, and delivered the car on July 4th. With all 3 transporters the cars arrived un-damaged and as they were at pick up.

I would use Thomas Sunday again and Intercity. Richard in his article brings up some great points to keep in mind...especially with the deductible on cargo insurance.

This is the best part of the entire transaction...

I used Plycar , they will pick up non-running cars too as long as they roll , and you can pick up at the office in Torrance, Ca which worked for me ,

Well the long strange trip is over. After 4 delays, my car arrived safe and sound. Driver was great and showed up a few hours sooner than expected but will never use them again.

Check their FMCSA scores and equipment before committing to anything.

Not sure what a FMCSA score is or where to check it? I will try Google.

Ended up booking the transport with Thomas Sunday....so far they have been a HUGE disappointment. They missed first pick up day, pushed back another week, and now pushed me back again. Never once did they contact me. Cant recommend these guys.
