    Hemmings Sports and Exotic

I went to the Hemmings Sports and Exotic show at the Saratoga Auto Museum. 911s were featured but overall attendance was not high, probably due to the morning rain. Probably just over a dozen Porsches, and only a couple of longhoods. But it was a good excuse for about six hours of seat time through New Hampshire, Vermont and NY.

A few more 911s showed up later, and the 71T won best 911, I believe. Lotsa turbos in attendance.

In the coincidence department: the night before I had been Googling on e12 BMWs, having not seen one on the road in ages. There were TWO perfect examples on display in Saratoga today.

The irony of parking the least powerful Porsche in attendance next to the GT3 was not lost on me.

What would you say was the marque breakdown by country of origin?

I subscribe to HS&EC, which is referred to in my house as Hemmings British & English Car, and I'm curious whether the turnout was as disproportionately Anglo-skewed as its features and advertising.

    Guestimate:

15 Porsches + another 10 German (mostly BMW and a few MB)
    Roughly an equal number British
    10-12 Italian
Maybe 8 Saabs and 2 Volvos
    5-6 Japanese
    1 Citroen 2CV

To be fair to the Hemmings guys, for a show like this it's all up to who shows up, not what they prefer. They certainly weren't turning folks away. Seems like Auto Haus did a good job drumming up interest in the show among their clients, which helped the Porsche representation.

I would agree with the above guestimation.

@tpdorsey - did you park on the lawn? (did I meet you?)

That's good to see. One of my favorite games to play with HS&EC is to count the ads for parts/service by country of marque per issue, and there are always more for British cars than for cars from all other countries combined. They have had a small increase in ads for Fiat parts/service, based I imagine on the re-introduction of that brand to the US.

Quit picking on the Brits. Besides who would subscribe to a mag titled "BMC Excellence"?
